With so many of us spending much more time at home, it’s easy to forget what day it is. That’s a problem if you have a meeting scheduled, but if not it basically makes every day a weekend! Since brunch has a way of making a day feel special, and in honor of Eggs Benedict Day tomorrow, I’ve put together a collection of the top 4 brunch wine and food pairings.
Personally, I usually have milk with my pancakes- it reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom used to make them on Saturday mornings- but when I’m out with the girls, I definitely have a mimosa (or 3!) with my stack of pancakes. If you’d rather do a still wine, choose it based on the type of pancakes you’re having. If they pancakes are smothered in berries or a berry syrup, try a Moscato D’Asti or a slightly sweet Riesling. If the pancakes are more savory with lots of cinnamon and nutmeg, you could try a Sauvignon Blanc or even a properly chilled Pinot Noir.
Since tomorrow is Eggs Benedict Day, of course this one is on the list. The classic eggs benedict is a decadent, savory, creamy, buttery concoction that really deserves a good wine. Ros? is a great option because it?s light enough to not overpower the dish but has enough structure and acidity to balance the creaminess of the dish.
A fluffy vegetable omelet with lots of cheese, bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, and spinach pairs perfectly with a light, dry white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or even a slightly fuller-bodied Chablis. The acidity in the wine will balance the rich, fatty cheese; while the earthier notes in the wine complement the vegetables. Just be careful not to get an oaked white wine, which will overpower the light dish.
Mmm…cinnamon rolls. Sweet, savory, gooey deliciousness on a plate. I love Rieslings with any cinnamon dish and cinnamon rolls are no exception. Pinot Noirs are often good with cinnamon as well as the cinnamon helps draw out the fruit flavors of the wine.
