Pie. Just the word triggers memories of mouth-watering fillings, flaky crusts, and family. For a pie lover, it’s the best part of the holidays and for many, it’s a quintessential part of the Thanksgiving feast. Pie has always been an important part of both Thanksgiving and Christmas for my family. I remember when I was a kid, my mom would always make coconut cream pie (my dad’s favorite) and he and my aunt would spend the day hiding the pie from each other and hunting for it, hoping to get the pie to themselves. It was silly, but a tradition I miss now. My mom always had to make 2 pumpkin pies because that was a big favorite with most of the family. I’m a huge fan of fruit pies, mostly because of the way the fruit filling seeps into the bottom crust. It’s such a delicious, sweet, chewy, and crunchy combination!

My favorite part of Thanksgiving is settling down after everything is cleaned up and enjoying a big piece of pie and a glass of wine. I know, I know…wine and dessert don’t go together. Except they do. You can enjoy your favorite pie with a nice glass of wine if you keep an open mind and do a little experimenting. To get you started, here are my picks for the perfect pairings:

Now you tell me: what’s your favorite pie pairing?
